How to Clean a Soaked Memory Foam Mattress
Memory foam mattress is made up of visco elastic technology. As soon as the foam adjusts to the temperature of your body, it suddenly adheres to your body’s contours in order to reduce body pains, pressure sores and correct body posture.
However, this mattress also has open foam structure. Because of that, it can easily absorb moisture, water or liquid. And that is what you want to avoid if you are using a memory foam mattress. If you completely soak this mattress, it will take days before it gets fully dried up. And this is enough time for unwanted molds and mildew to settle in your bed.
When your memory foam mattress gets soaking wet for some reason, here are some of the things you should do:
1. Immediately clean your mattress. Press your palms on the mattress surface to get rid of as much excess moisture and liquid as you can. You can also try using an absorbent towel as you press the mattress down so it will better absorb moisture.
2. If there are stains, prepare a natural cleaning solution. Mix one cup of lemon juice and one cup of lukewarm water. Put the mixture in a spray bottle and spray the solution on the affected area. Allow the solution to settle for a few minutes while you are working on the rest of the mattress.
3. Take your mattress outside, preferably in a sunny place to continue your ministrations. When you have already extracted as much water as you can, immediately sprinkle baking soda. This will prevent the mattress from producing moldy smell and it will also help absorb excess moisture.
4. The air and sun from the outdoors will help it dry up completely but do your own drying techniques as well. Put an electric fan close to it and allow the air from the fan to dry it. Also use blow dryer to dry out heavily soaked parts. Do this for at least an hour until the mattress becomes relatively dryer.
You probably know now that it is not easy to remove stains, smell and moisture from a memory foam. This is why it is advisable to buy a mattress protector that can help repel excess moisture.
So follow these steps in getting rid of memory foam mattress moisture. Make sure the mattress is completely dry before transferring it back to your room and using it.
